SUMMARY: A newly formed group called Restart Lone Star Rail District is trying to revive a plan to bring passenger train service to the I-35 corridor in central Texas. The Union Pacific Freight Rail Company is open to considering new proposals for passenger rail service connecting San Antonio and Austin. The previous proposal for passenger train service between Georgetown and San Antonio failed in 2016 when Union Pacific pulled out of the deal. Restart Lone Star Rail District aims to restart the planning process for the passenger rail between the two cities, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion on I-35. They are currently coalition building to gain support for regional passenger rail.

What’s going on with the Lake Livingston Dam? KPRC 2 digs into the problem, finds answers on the fix

Published

on

www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-07-03 19:00:30

SUMMARY: This report highlights two significant issues discovered along the Trinity River, affecting the dam and surrounding infrastructure. The first issue, found in May, involves erosion around a westward training wall, leading to partial failure. The second, discovered last week, involves severe erosion at the base of a support structure near the dam’s apron, prompting federal emergency alerts. In response, the Trinity River Authority is taking three major actions: lowering Lake Livingston’s water level, moving 100 truckloads of rock daily, and pumping concrete for essential repairs. These measures aim to ensure the dam’s safety before any tropical storms hit, with final repairs expected by month’s end.

Nearly a week after the Trinity River Authority declared a “potential failure watch” for the Lake Livingston Dam, we’re learning about the damage done during flooding earlier this year.
