SUMMARY: Kathleen Dinali, Chairperson of the Cultural Arts Commission, announces the unveiling of a new sculpture, “Resolve” by Doug Mlan, funded by the commission and the City of Galveston using hotel and occupancy taxes. The sculpture, located at 20th and Strand, celebrates Galveston's community effort in building the seawall. Influenced by the seawall's construction and historic island architecture, Mlan's work symbolizes local resilience and history. The sculpture will serve as a focal point in the downtown Cultural Arts District. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Saturday, June 1st at 5:00 p.m. Mlan describes how his 40-year residency on the island informed the design.

The City of Galveston is proud to recognize local artist and Cultural Arts Commission grant recipient, Doug McLean. Doug is the recipient of the Cultural Arts Commission's largest public art grant award to date for his sculpture, “Resolve.” Located at 20th & Strand St., “Resolve” is a physical depiction of Galveston's resilience. The silhouette of the statue is a wave breaking over the seawall, with the wave being a replica of a scroll from a pre-1900 Storm home on the island.
The City of Galveston's Cultural Arts Commission is hosting a ribbon cutting for “Resolve” and artist, Doug McLean, this Saturday, June 1st at 5PM with a reception immediately following at the Galveston Arts Center. Come meet the artist and view this beautiful addition to our Historic Downtown Cultural Arts District.

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-02 07:25:03

SUMMARY: President Biden condemned a US Supreme Court ruling that grants former presidents, including Trump, broad immunity for official acts while in office. This decision could significantly impact federal prosecutors in Trump's election interference case by requiring them to differentiate between official and unofficial conduct. The Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling suggests that presidents have almost unrestricted power for official acts, with Biden warning that it sets a dangerous precedent. Trump hailed the decision as a victory for democracy. The ruling may also affect Trump's other criminal cases, such as those concerning classified documents and election subversion. Trump's attorneys plan to challenge his hush money conviction based on this new immunity ruling.

President Joe Biden condemned the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that granted former President Donald Trump and other presidents certain immunity for official acts while in office. Meanwhile, Trump called the decision a “big win for our constitution and democracy.”

SUMMARY: The family of Anthony Johnson Jr., who died at Taran County Jail, plans to speak after two jailers faced charges related to his death. Jailers Raphael Moreno and Joel Garcia are out on bond after turning themselves in on murder warrants. Footage shows Moreno with his knee on Johnson's back during a contraband check, violating policies and resulting in Johnson's death by asphyxiation. Garcia recorded the incident, delaying medical help. Johnson, a veteran with mental illness, was jailed for erratic behavior. Garcia's attorneys believe a jury will find him innocent. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide with methamphetamine as a contributing factor.

The family of an inmate who died at the Tarrant County jail earlier this year plans to speak out for the first time since two jailers were charged in connection to his death. Those two jailers are now out on bond.

SUMMARY: Back in March, Shiron Robinson underwent a veneer procedure at Forever Veneers, an unlicensed Houston clinic, which cost him $8,700. Misled by their Instagram page boasting 54,000 followers and seemingly satisfied clients, Robinson flew from Rhode Island for the procedure. Post-treatment, he experienced severe issues including trouble chewing, open pockets in his gums, and a veneer coming off. It was revealed that Jaden Moror, who performed the procedure, lacked a dentistry license and now faces felony charges. Robinson continues to face significant dental problems and financial strain, seeking further dental care while cautioning others against misleading social media advertisements.
