Public education advocates rally against school vouchers at Capitol | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Texans gathered at the Capitol on Saturday to protest Governor Greg Abbott's call for a special session on taxpayer-funded vouchers for private schools. Public education advocates want voters to vote against private school vouchers, arguing that the focus should be on improving the quality of education and providing better financial support for public schools. Advocates believe that vouchers will harm the community and take away accountability in public schools. Leander ISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing spoke at the rally, stating that vouchers take away accountability in his district, which is governed by a locally elected board of trustees. After the rally, advocates left boots at the Governor's Mansion gates as a symbol of their opposition to vouchers and support for public education.
Hundreds gathered at the Texas Capitol today to rally against school vouchers. Hear what local school leaders have to say.

Hays County district clerk resigns | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Avery Anderson, elected at 19, faced numerous issues during his tenure, including failing to send jury summons, subpoenas, and protective orders. Attorneys Khloe Love and Thomas filed a lawsuit to remove him in September 2023, citing widespread concerns about his competence. In February, a judge found Anderson incompetent. A hearing was held last month to consider his temporary removal, but Anderson resigned instead, avoiding a potentially embarrassing trial. He denied incompetence in his resignation letter, attributing his errors to inexperience. District Attorney Kelly Higgins welcomed the resignation, anticipating better collaboration moving forward. Angela Shen reported for Fox 7 Austin News.
