Safety improvements almost complete near Rainey Street District | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Temporary safety measures on the Lady Bird Lake Trail in Austin are becoming permanent. Crews are installing new lighting, part of $800,000 of improvements. Previously, temporary solar lighting and a camera were added; now permanent lighting and a camera have been installed at Rainey Street. Fencing improvements, including extensions and a gate, will be completed this month, while a sidewalk extension is set for August. The Rainey Street Trail Head project will add a new park with lighting and signage. These changes were expedited after multiple bodies were found near the lake, sparking false rumors of a serial killer.
Safety improvements to the Lady Bird Lake trailhead off Rainey Street are on track to be completed by the end of summer.
