www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2023-11-17 22:21:57

SUMMARY: The Texas House rejected a proposal to use taxpayer dollars to help people pay for private school, despite threats from Governor Abbott to continue calling lawmakers back until they give him what he wants. The bill to allow families to use taxpayer dollars for private religious schools was heavily debated, with proponents arguing it would offer more choices for students, while critics said it would hurt public schools. The amendment that stripped the voucher plan from the bill was approved by a majority, leaving the school funding bill essentially dead. Governor Abbott vowed to continue pushing for his priority and calling lawmakers back for more special sessions.

The Texas House handed Texas Governor Greg Abbott's key priority for the fourth special session of the Texas Legislature a major defeat, killing a proposal to use taxpayer dollars to help people pay for private school.

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-10 18:25:59

SUMMARY: Frustration is high in Houston, where over a million customers remain without power due to Barrel. Although CenterPoint Energy has restored power to around 40% of affected customers, the heat is causing discomfort for those still in the dark. The Houston Fire Department has reported an increase in carbon monoxide calls as people use generators to cool down. Efforts are ongoing to restore power quickly, with crews working around the clock and additional teams arriving from out of state. Cooling centers are operational, and food pantries are addressing the increased demand. CenterPoint hopes to provide more specific restoration timelines soon.

CenterPoint Energy, which services the area, says it has now restored power to roughly 1 million people affected by the storm. However, the lack of power in the heat is causing problems for those still not restored.

Dallas judge orders city to improve storm debris operation after complaints from nearby college

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-10 18:17:09

SUMMARY: A Dallas District Court Judge issued a temporary restraining order requiring better dust control at the city's storm debris mulch operation near Interstate 635 and Greenville Avenue. The order came after complaints from the CEO of a nearby technical college for veterans, whose HVAC units were clogged by fine wood particles from the mulching. Despite the city's measures to mitigate the issue, such as relocating the mulching and building a vegetation wall, the college's attorney argued regulations were still being violated. The judge's order mandates improved dust control without halting operations, with another hearing set for July 22nd. Damages could exceed a million dollars.

A Dallas district court judge granted a technical college's temporary restraining order request against the city of Dallas. The order requires the city to do a better job keeping water in its storm debris mulch operation.

President Biden’s federal hurricane aid claim refuted by Gov. Abbott | FOX 7 Austin

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 7 Austin – 2024-07-10 17:34:00

SUMMARY: Governor Greg Abbott, on an economic development trip abroad, responded to President Biden's accusation that Abbott's inaccessibility delayed federal hurricane aid for Texas. Abbott refuted Biden's claim by stating that he had not missed any calls from Biden or FEMA officials regarding the disaster. The governor also addressed Houston's frequent power outages, highlighting the recent incident where Hurricane Barrel left over 2 million residents without power. Abbott directed the Public Utilities Commission to investigate the recurring power issues and provide findings before the next Texas legislative session. Despite being overseas, Abbott maintained regular communication with acting Governor Dan Patrick and emergency management officials.

A “bizarre unforced error” is how Governor Greg Abbott described President Biden's claim that federal hurricane aid to Texas was delayed because state leaders were unavailable to take his call.
