SUMMARY: Human smuggling operations are using the Southern border crisis to lure people from various backgrounds into risking their freedom for quick cash. The investigation reveals that individuals with no criminal backgrounds, including professionals like attorneys, medical professionals, and even soldiers, are getting involved in human smuggling. Recruiters target young individuals through social media platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and Snapchat, creating an illusion of low risk by simply driving individuals from one city to another without crossing the border. However, these individuals are facing serious legal consequences, losing their assets, and experiencing stigma in society. Operation Lone Star in Texas has resulted in over 40,000 arrests and 37,000 felony charges related to human smuggling.

From game chats, to social media, to meet-ups at nightclubs; human smuggling is not as far from your front door as you may think. Smuggling operations are using the crisis along the southern border to entice people from all walks life into risking their freedom for quick cash.
