Texas primary moves Republican Party further right

SUMMARY: There were surprises in the Texas election results, with Governor Greg Abbott gaining nine votes towards his private school voucher program, but still needing two more. Republican voters seem to want the party to move further to the right, based on primary election results. The engagement level of party voters in the primaries is high, but it may not reflect the general electorate. Democrat State Senator Nathan Johnson retained his seat in a close race against a challenger. Overall, the election results suggest a shift towards conservative ideologies in Texas, with some unexpected outcomes in certain races. The upcoming race between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred is uncertain.

Super Tuesday is over and some candidates had a tough fight while others easily advanced to the November general election. Good Day talked to reporter Karen Brooks Harper who has covered politics in North Texas for more than two decades. She says the results will help Gov. Greg Abbott in his push for school vouchers. They're also a clear indication that voters want the party to move further to the right.

SUMMARY: During a deadly shooting at a Fort Worth car wash on July 4th, a bystander's intervention might have prevented further casualties. The altercation began when 27-year-old Canard Murphy, who had prior domestic violence issues, fought with a relative of his 11-month-old daughter's mother at a gathering. Murphy pulled out a rifle and started shooting, killing three innocent bystanders: two young girls and 42-year-old Terell Win. Murphy was ultimately shot by an unknown person, causing him to drop the rifle, and another individual secured it. Murphy faces multiple capital murder charges and is currently hospitalized, delaying his booking into jail.

Court documents obtained by FOX 4 reveal more about what led to a Fort Worth shooting on the Fourth of July that killed three people, including a 4-year-old and 1-year-old.
