www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-05-25 08:42:00

SUMMARY: This morning, US 290 in northwest Houston is scheduled for two closures to allow Center Point Energy to reinstall power lines after last Thursday's storm. The closures, planned between Mangum and West 34 Street, have experienced delays. Initially scheduled for 7:00 AM, the closures have yet to occur, causing some uncertainty. Despite the delay, motorists have not faced significant waiting times. The original plan was for two ten-minute closures around 7:00 and 8:00 AM. With Memorial Day traffic increasing, drivers are advised to delay their travel. Updates will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds.

On Saturday, May 25, all lanes of US Highway 290 will be closed in both directions. The closure was originally set for 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., but as of 8:30 a.m., it had not yet occurred. Stay tuned for updates on this situation.

What’s going on with the Lake Livingston Dam? KPRC 2 digs into the problem, finds answers on the fix

Published

www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-07-03 19:00:30

SUMMARY: This report highlights two significant issues discovered along the Trinity River, affecting the dam and surrounding infrastructure. The first issue, found in May, involves erosion around a westward training wall, leading to partial failure. The second, discovered last week, involves severe erosion at the base of a support structure near the dam's apron, prompting federal emergency alerts. In response, the Trinity River Authority is taking three major actions: lowering Lake Livingston's water level, moving 100 truckloads of rock daily, and pumping concrete for essential repairs. These measures aim to ensure the dam's safety before any tropical storms hit, with final repairs expected by month's end.

Nearly a week after the Trinity River Authority declared a “potential failure watch” for the Lake Livingston Dam, we're learning about the damage done during flooding earlier this year.

Despite weakening from Category 5, Barrel's 140 mph winds pose a severe threat with potential for life-threatening storm surges, flooding, and damaging waves. The storm previously devastated several Caribbean islands, including St. Vincent, the Grenadines, and Grenada, destroying homes, buildings, and vital infrastructure. Barrel is expected to weaken further as it moves towards the Cayman Islands and Yucatan Peninsula.
