Ways to help lower soaring rent prices | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: A recent study found that people living in some of the fastest-growing cities in the country, including Austin, Texas, need to make at least $85,000 a year to afford rent. Rent prices in Austin have increased by 8.2% in the past year and 25% in the past two years. Rent is the largest part of the monthly budget for 35% of households, which can be a significant financial burden. Ways to cut down on monthly rent payments include pre-paying rent, signing up for auto-pay, negotiating a two-year lease, and offering to do repairs or maintenance. Boosting credit scores and considering different neighborhoods are also options.
