SUMMARY: Firefighters are currently working on containing two wildfires in Wise County. The smaller fire, called the Gas Fire, is burning just south of Rome on Highway 287 and is about 15 acres in size, with about 95% containment. The larger fire, known as the Boones Creek Fire, near Lake Bridgeport, is much larger and has prompted some evacuations. The area is covered in dry brush, making it difficult for firefighters to put out all the hotspots. The fire started yesterday afternoon and has covered about 80 acres. Crews have been working through the night to put out any additional smoldering material, and the fire is currently 70% contained. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

SUMMARY: House Democrat Angie Craig has joined calls for President Biden to exit the presidential race, as many Democrats doubt his capacity to serve another term. They fear his refusal to acknowledge poll warnings could harm down-ballot races, with critical votes expected to be decided by slim margins. Concerns are especially high in the House, where Democrats see a chance to regain control in November. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is set to meet with top House Democrats, while Senator Mark Warner is working to persuade Biden to step aside. Conversely, Senator John Fetterman supports Biden and criticizes calls for his withdrawal.
