Woman dies while in custody after suffering ‘medical emergency’ at the Harris County Jail
SUMMARY: A 50-year-old woman named Dominga Martinez died in the Harris County Jail after a medical emergency. She had been awaiting trial since June 29th. This marks the 17th death at the jail, according to the Texas Jail Project. The jail has faced previous scrutiny for failing inspections and not meeting medical and staffing requirements. The Harris County Sheriff's Office stated that Martinez had no obvious signs of physical injuries. Her death comes just a month after a 62-year-old man also died from a medical emergency at the same jail. The Houston Police Department is leading the investigation into these cases.
Another inmate has died at the Harris County Jail after suffering a “medical emergency” inside a medical ward of the jail Monday, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

What’s going on with the Lake Livingston Dam? KPRC 2 digs into the problem, finds answers on the fix
SUMMARY: This report highlights two significant issues discovered along the Trinity River, affecting the dam and surrounding infrastructure. The first issue, found in May, involves erosion around a westward training wall, leading to partial failure. The second, discovered last week, involves severe erosion at the base of a support structure near the dam’s apron, prompting federal emergency alerts. In response, the Trinity River Authority is taking three major actions: lowering Lake Livingston’s water level, moving 100 truckloads of rock daily, and pumping concrete for essential repairs. These measures aim to ensure the dam’s safety before any tropical storms hit, with final repairs expected by month’s end.
Nearly a week after the Trinity River Authority declared a “potential failure watch” for the Lake Livingston Dam, we’re learning about the damage done during flooding earlier this year.

Hurricane Beryl causes death and destruction in parts of Caribbean | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Jamaica is preparing for Hurricane Barrel, a Category 4 storm, impacting nearly 3 million residents. The hurricane has already caused significant damage and fatalities in the Southeast Caribbean. Prime Minister declared the island a disaster area with a state of emergency for at least seven days, ordering curfews and evacuations in low-lying areas. Despite weakening from Category 5, Barrel's 140 mph winds pose a severe threat with potential for life-threatening storm surges, flooding, and damaging waves. The storm previously devastated several Caribbean islands, including St. Vincent, the Grenadines, and Grenada, destroying homes, buildings, and vital infrastructure. Barrel is expected to weaken further as it moves towards the Cayman Islands and Yucatan Peninsula.
